In 1946, they changed the name to the Evangelical Lutheran Church as part of the “Americanization” process. By the 1960s, Lutheran churches of German and Danish backgrounds joined together to form the American Lutheran Church. Presidents of the Evangelical Lutheran Church included Hans Gerhard Stub (1917-1925), Johan Arnd Aasgaard (1925-1954), and Fredrik A. Schiotz (1954-1960).
