Church of the Lutheran Brethren of America, 1900-current

Formed in 1900 when five Lutheran Congregations from the United Norwegian Lutheran Church of America met in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Their constitution was patterned after the Lutheran Free Church of Norway. In 1903, they founded the Lutheran Bible School, which has current schools in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. The group's first President was Knut O. Lundeberg – an emigrant from Kviteseid, Telemark. Lundeberg was educated at Luther College and attended Seminary at St. Olaf College. He was the leader and organizer of the church.

Lundeberg was a former Anti-Missourian who visited Norway where he came in contact with the free churches in Norway. When he returned to his congregation in Kenyon, Minnesota, he began to express his new beliefs. By 1911, Lundeberg returned to the United Lutheran Church. He published an apology “Svar paa spørgsmal om hvorfor jeg forlot Brodersamfundet og gik ind i den forende Kirke” (Why I left the Lutheran Brethren and joined the United Church).
